23 May 2019 Yr 12 Fine Art, Textiles & Photography Trip On Thursday 23 May I took a group of Year 12 Students to three South London galleries including South London Gallery and Camberwell Space. The day included a gallery tour and talk from the curator of Moving The Image. The purpose of our visit was to enable students to further their contextual understanding of Art and Curating while helping prepare and develop research materials for their practice and end of year exhibition. |

Dafna Talmor - Constructed Landscapes
24th May 2018 - 9am - 3:20pm A23 & The Coop Gallery Artist Talk & Workshop Introducing our Yr 13 theme "Landscape", one of the most influential female artists working in contemporary photography, Dafna Talmor will deliver an Artist talk about her practice and workshop that will support students to produce their own constructed landscapes. Work produced can be used to support A Level portfolios. Constructed Landscapes is an ongoing project that stems from Talmor’s personal archive of photographs initially shot as mere keepsakes across different locations that include Venezuela, Israel, the US and UK. Memorial - Aviva Hurn
Solo Exhibition The Cab Gallery Creative Arts Block, Coopers School Opens 6th February 2018 Private view 6th February 2018 6:00pm - 7:30pm You are all cordially invited to attend our Holocaust Memorial Commemoration Event on Tuesday 6th February at 6pm in the Creative Arts Block. We are fortunate to exhibit art work by Aviva Hurn, the daughter of a Holocaust Survivor, kindly loaned to us by June Hurn. Plus guest speakers: Anita Peleg (Dauter of Holocaust surviver Niomi Blake) and Joanna Friel (The Chiselhurst Society). Holocaust Memorial Day is commemorated each year on 27 January. This is a day where we remember the 6 Million Jewish people who were murdered in the Holocaust, along with others that suffered in Nazi occupied Europe. We also commemorate those who have been murdered in subsequent genocides in the 20th Century, along with the genocide that is still happening today. |

Dafna Talmor - Constructed Landscapes Gallery Visit
Photofusion Gallery, London 30th March 2017 Yr 12 Fine Art / Textiles Trip On Thursday 30th March I took a group of Year 12 Fine Art & Textiles students to see the Constructed Landscapes exhibition at Photofusion Gallery London. The purpose of our visit was to enable students to develop research materials for the next stage of their own professional development. The trip involved a short intro from the curator of Photofusion, plus a artist talk and workshop by Dafna Talmor followed by a Q&A and group discussion. Constructed Landscapes is an ongoing project that stems from Talmor’s personal archive of photographs initially shot as mere keepsakes across different locations that include Venezuela, Israel, the US and UK. Produced by collaging medium format colour negatives, the process relies on experimentation, involving several incisions and configurations before a right match is achieved. Read more here. Art in Dialogue Study Day
National Gallery 1st October 2015 Yr 13 Fine Art Trip A2 Fine Art students Ryan Hill, Jade Hutchinson, Elliot Jefferies, Alistair Masawi and Ted Newton were selected to take part in a study day at The National Gallery. The aim was to develop independent observation, research and investigation skills in a workshop exploring the National Gallery’s exhibition ‘Duccio|Caro: Art in Dialogue’. This exhibit is a creative interaction between two works of art made almost 700 years apart, The Annunciation by Sienese painter Duccio (active 1278-1319) and Duccio Variation No.3 by British sculptor Sir Anthony Caro. Led by Curator of Italian paintings Caroline Campbell, practicing sculptor Katie Aggett and expert gallery educators, learners were encouraged to think independently, ask informed questions and analyse information. Colligate Day
Bromley Schools CPD Conference Royal Academy, London, UK 27th February 2015 This year's CPD conference was led by the Head of Art at Bishop Justus Barney Hall and was held at the Royal Academy in London. After a brief talk from the Royal Academy Education Department we were split into subject specialisms to discuss strategies for the new A Level specification. After lunch we were free to take a tour of the current exhibitions at the RA featuring Rubens And His Legacy, A Strong Sweet Smell of Incense, A Portrait of Robert Fraser and Premiums the RA Student Interim Show. Afterwards I took the opportunity to take a look at the current shows on in the Cork Street Galleries including Richard Long's new work The Spike Island Tapes. V&A Gallery Visit
V&A, London, UK 25th February 2015 Yr 11 Fine Art Trip In preparation for their final exam unit based around the theme Mixed Media we took our Yr 11 Fine Art students to the V&A for inspiration and to gather resources. After taking in the permanent collections we paid particuliar attention to a group show featuring Turner Prize winning artist Chris Ofili who came to prominence in the early 1990s for his highly elaborate mixed media works which on occasion feature elephant dung. We ended with Cornelia Parker's site specific installation Breathless 2001 (right). "It is made of 54 defunct brass band instruments which have been squashed flat and hung from wires. They are designed to be seen from both above and below, with polished upper surfaces and tarnished undersides. the work is an attempt by the artist to explore such ideas of duality as silence/noise, upper class/lower class, and death/resurrection." |

A2 Photography Commission
Leesons Primary School Orpington, UK 5th December 2014 Last week our A2 Photography students went to Leesons Primary School to document their Christmas Fair for their school website. On arrival at the school we were greeted by Head Teacher Amanda Rush and given a tour of where the event was taking place. The students asked informed questions and tried to get a clear understanding of what the client wanted from them. It was a fantastic afternoon and I was so pleased to hear such positive feedback from staff about the students' professionalism. Hopefully this will be the first of many more commissions to come. |

Arena One: The Body Electric Closing Event & Open Studio

Kingswood Camp Beaumont Residential

This is an incredible opportunity and achievement, one that will hopefully help cement a clearer pathway into the creative industries. The students will explore different art forms such as photography, painting, film and sculpture in their own studio while working alongside other artists and Goldsmiths students. On Landscape # 1 Gallery Visit & Curator's Tour
Guest Projects, London, UK 11th March 2014 Yr 12/13 Fine Art & Photography On Landscape # 1 is the first of a series of exhibitions based on conversations between artists Minna Kantonen, Dafna Talmor and Emma Wieslander. It aims to challenge traditional representations of landscape. The exhibition at Guest Projects featured photographic work by the three artists and a site-specific installation by invited artist Minna Pöllänen. The students got to explore the work on display including many bespoke artist books and took part in a Q&A with On Landscape # 1 artist and curator Dafna Talmor. The Photographers' Gallery, London, UK 11th March 2014 Yr 12/13 Fine Art & Photography We could not really miss the chance to see the photographic work of three critically acclaimed and highly influential artists: Andy Warhol - David Lynch - William S. Burroughs when they hit town in March. Not usually known for their work in photography this was a rare opportunity to see how three very different artists tackle both the physical and critical boundaries and limitations of the medium. After exploring the many displays from a more historical standpoint we went on to the Serpentine Gallery to see Haim Steinbach's reconfigured historical installations in once again the world is flat. Richard Hamilton: Art & Politics In the 1980s Gallery Visit
Tate Modern, London, UK 26th March 2014 Yr 12/13 Photography "One of the most influential British artists of the 20th century, Richard Hamilton (1922–2011) is widely regarded as a founding figure of pop art, who continued to experiment and innovate over a career of 60 years. Tate Modern presents the first retrospective to encompass the full scope of Hamilton’s work, from his early exhibition designs of the 1950s to his final paintings of 2011. This exhibition explores his relationship to design, painting, photography and television, as well as his engagement and collaborations with other artists." Mina Fouladi: In Fragments 2014
Solo Show, Corridor Space, Coopers School Spring Term 2014 Open Monday - Friday 10am - 4pm Mina Fouladi's In Fragments 2014 is a response to the Year 13 brief Landscapes. Inspired by Mondrian, the original painting was constructed from fragments of the landscape around her and painted directly onto the wall of The Coop. The wall was then taken down and cut into fragments making a collection of 10 compositions displayed in the corridor space adjacent to The Coop Gallery. |
